Precedent Workflows > What are precedent workflows?
Similar types of legal cases often follow similar procedures. For example, you might repeat the same 3 or 4 steps each time you schedule and take a deposition. In a real estate purchase, you might always follow certain steps in a set order based on the closing date. For a new client, you might have a few basic steps, as shown below in the Workflow Editor.
Once you've defined a workflow, the series of appointments and/or tasks commonly involved in a transaction, you can then apply it whenever you have an appropriate case file. At that point you'll assign the particular firm members, contacts, and key dates relevant to that file. The appointments/tasks can be independent of one another, or linked in a chain where, for example, one task will be automatically scheduled a particular number of days after the prior task is completed.
Optionally specify DO button intelligent assistance in tasks, that will perform a predefined action when clicked. Not only will a real estate workflow schedule all the necessary steps, but it can also draft all the letters, contracts, and other documents, help you place the phone calls and, of course, do automatic time entries for each step as you perform it.
